By Alexis Quevedo/COC Sports Information
College of the Canyons came away just three points short in an 86-83 home loss to Long Beach City College at the Cougar Cage on Tuesday.
With just seconds remaining in the game Andrew Henderson made a three-point shot to bring the Cougars within just two points at 85-83. COC then committed a late-game foul to send LBCC's Bonard Johnson Jr. to the line. Johnson converted on one of his attempts to force the Cougars into a game-tying three-point attempt. However, the Cougars struggled to find a clean look from three-point land and didn't manage to get off a final shot.
Canyons (3-4) took a 12-point advantage into halftime, led by Henderson's 14 first half points.
The Vikings (4-3) were led by starter Lorenzo Marsh who tallied 17 first half points on 58 percent shooting, including a trio of three-pointers. Marsh would continue this scoring performance in the second half by adding 13 more points to bring him to 30 on the night.
Long Beach entered the second half trying to chip away at the Cougars' early lead, and eventually caught up to Canyons. There were 14 lead changes throughout the course of the matchup. The Cougars were outscored 52-37 in the second half recording 10 turnovers to aid Long Beach.
Henderson led COC in scoring with 23 points off the bench points to be paired with six rebounds and four steals. Jonah El-Farra and Dillion Barrientos racked up 13 points apiece. Barrientos finished with five assists and El-Farra pulled down seven rebounds.
