Cougars Get Turned Away 60-58 at Cypress College

CYPRESS — College of the Canyons held Cypress College to just five points across the final 3:55 of the game but failed to convert on its final attempt to eventually fall 60-58 on the road Tuesday night. 

Canyons (4-5) sophomore Quincy Arms hit a trio of free throws to bring the Cougars within two points at 60-58 with 17 seconds left in the contest.

COC managed a final long attempt off the hand of Jimmy Galgano before the final buzzer but could get no closer. Galgano finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds on a 4-of-6 shooting performance, all from three-point land.

Dillon Barrientos kept the Cougars close throughout the opening half with a game-high 13 points that included a 3-of-5 mark from behind the arc. Barrientos led all scorers in the game with 18 points and continues to lead Canyons with an average of 17.7 ppg each night out. 

The Chargers (6-5) won the battle of the boards by a 34-25 margin and shot 39.7 percent from the field with 10 turnovers. Cypress leading scorer Mark Onyejekwe finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds. The Chargers also received 20 bench points compared to just seven from the Cougars.

Canyons committed 12 turnovers but shot better than 42 percent from the field. Jonah El-Farra was 4-of-4 from the floor to finish with 10 points. Quincy Arms chipped in with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds to go with a pair of assists and three steals.

Upcoming Schedule

Canyons will compete in another road contest, this time vs. Rio Hondo College at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16.

COC then returns to the Cougar Cage to host West Hills Lemoore at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. That game will be live streamed to fans free of charge on the Cougars Sports Network.
