Cougars Can't Get Past L.A. Valley in 76-70 Conference Loss

College of the Canyons dropped a 76-70 result to L.A. Valley College at the Cougar Cage on Wednesday, falling in the first contest of the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division schedule.
Canyons (9-6) had a slow start allowing the Monarchs to take the lead for the first eight minutes. Back-and-forth play ensued for the next few minutes before the Cougars broke away with just under seven minutes to go in the first half, eventually heading to the locker room with a six-point lead.
However, the Monarch's (6-9) quickly put the Cougars' lead to rest within two minutes of the second half and stood their ground the rest of the way.
COC fought to regain the lead for the majority of the half, but ultimately could not surpass the Monarchs.
Canyons saw 24 total points from its starters with Quincy Arms, Jonah El-Farra and Justice Harper all working for eight points each.
The Cougars found the majority of their points from the bench, with Dillon Barrientos leading the pack with 17. Andrew Henderson was right behind with 14 and Mason Savery added nine.
Overall, the Cougars shot 39 percent from the field and forced 19 turnovers, while committing 19 themselves.

Upcoming Schedule
The Cougars continue conference play on the road against Bakersfield College on Saturday, Jan. 7 with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
Canyons is back in the Cougar Cage Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. to host conference opponent Citrus College.
