Canyons Wins Home Opener 9-0 Over Chaffey
Canyons (2-1) has outscored opponents by a 17-0 margin over its last two outings.

College of the Canyons made short work of visiting Chaffey College in the form a 9-0 five-inning victory in the Cougars' 2020 home opener on Tuesday.
The victory was the second in as many games for Canyons (2-1) and avenged the 6-5 loss suffered by COC to this same Chaffey (1-4) team in the season opener played on Jan. 28 in Rancho Cucamonga.
The Cougars have outscored its opponents by a 17-0 margin over the last two victories. Those numbers also include an 8-0 road win at Orange Coast College on Jan. 31.
Canyons starter Jenna Rorick (2-0) earned the win after a five-inning outing that included four strikeouts and a pair of walks. She allowed just three hits in the game.
Rorick begin the second inning with a 4-0 cushion after the Cougars pounded the Panthers with a barrage of extra-base hits. Freshman Julia Fuentes tripled to score Chisato Kawahara and put COC on the board 1-0. Ashlynn Heck and Makayla Lopez both doubled home runs before a sacrifice by Nataly Miranda brought Lopez in to score, making it a 4-0 advantage.
Brianna Vazquez led off the second inning with a triple and later scored on Kawahara's RBI ground out. Heck later doubled again, and came around to score when the Panthers' outfielder mishandled the throw, giving Canyons a 6-0 lead.
COC settled for a lone run in the third, then added two more in the fourth on RBIs from Heck and Camryn Webb.
Heck finished the game 3-for-3 with a stolen base, two runs and two RBIs. Lopez and Fuentes both recorded a pair of hits with Fuentes also tripling and scoring twice.
Canyons will look to continue its win streak when it takes the diamond vs. visiting Fullerton College on Thursday.
The Cougars play their next five contests at Whitten Field, which includes back-to-back doubleheaders vs. Ventura and Cuesta College on Feb. 11 and 13, respectively.
