Cougars Register Three Second-Place Finishes at WSC Meet No. 2
Mikaela Martinez continued to lead the women’s squad by finishing second in the 200-yard butterfly, while Tim Lim clocked runner-up times in both the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke events.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Cougars turned in a trio of second-place finishes during the Western State Conference (WSC) meet hosted by Cuesta College on Saturday, with the men's team swimming to a sixth place and the women's team in ninth.
COC sophomore Tim Lim was the leader on the day, clocking runner-up times in the 50-yard freestyle (21.75) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.21) events to net 34 meet points for the Cougars.
Elsewhere on the men's squad Freshman Jacob Gibbs swam to a fourth-place result in the 50-yard freestyle (22.47) and later finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.84), good for 28 points.
Freshman Joshua Lusk checked in fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:35.13) to also help the Cougars' cause.
Host Cuesta College (445) won the meet with Ventura College in second and Bakersfield College (221) in the third spot. Santa Monica (200), L.A. Valley (163) and Canyons (140) rounded out the top six.
COC freshman Mikaela Martinez continued to lead the women's squad, finishing runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.30) and fourth in the 400-yard Individual Medley (5:20.22) to lead the team with 32 meet points.
Sophomore Kaley Gregory chipped in with 24 points after taking sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.23) and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.13).
Freshman Fernanda Terrones was fifth in the 1,50-yard freestyle (21:14.04), while Arianna Werner in the 200-yard backstroke (2:35.63) and Sierra Young in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:50.16) both swam to eighth-place results.
Cuesta (341) also won the women's meet, with Santa Barbara City College (294) and L.A. Valley (172) in the top three spots. Santa Monica (157), Bakersfield (148), Allan Hancock College (147), Citrus College (143), Ventura (139), Canyons (138) and L.A. Pierce (93) slotting behind.
The Cougars will next compete at WSC Meet No. 3 at L.A. Pierce College on Friday, March 27.
