Cougars Swim at First WSC Meet

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons competed in the first Western State Conference (WSC) meet of the season on Feb. 23, with several standout individual performances highlighting the day's activities.
The COC men's team finished third in the team standings while the women's squad was fifth. Cuesta College won the men's meet while Santa Barbara City College was tops in the women's team standings.
Olivia Miles was the leader for the Lady Cougs with her best result a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.87). Miles was also 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:36.32), 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:27.74) and 12th in the 50-yard freestyle (30.04).
Freshman Stella Vigdorchik had the best overall finish for the women's side, taking seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:38.97.
COC's 200-yard medley relay team of Max Brown, Keanu Pence, Nicolas Rainbird and Diego Rozbruch combined for a time of 1:55.98 to finish fifth in the field.
As individuals, it was Rozbruch with a fourth-place time of 23.62 in the 50-yard freestyle for the top finish of the day. The freshman also swam seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (53.51) and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.80).
Elsewhere, Jakob Glasshoff finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (2:26.64) just ahead of Pence in sixth (2:27.86). Glasshoff also took sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.21) ahead of Nicholas Jeffries in eighth (2:23.63).
Jeffries placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (1:20.52) with Pence slightly ahead of that pace in sixth (1:11.54). Max Brown was seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:06.15.
Canyons will next swim at the two-day Mt. San Antonio College March 1-2.
