Cougars Combine for Pair of Event Wins at WSC Meet

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons continued the early portion of its season at Western State Conference (WSC) Meet No. 1 hosted by Bakersfield College on Friday, with the Cougars capturing a pair of wins in the meet which attracted a field of six teams from the conference's northern region.
Canyons had an individual event winner on both the men's and women's side to go along with a combined 11 top-five finishes between the two squads.
COC freshman Trinity Winslow won the 400h (1:17.54) and ran to a third-place result in the 100h (18.42) to lead the women's team.
Milca Osorio (3000m/11:13.89) and Rebekah Brooks (100m/13.27) were also included among the top performers after clocking third-place times.
Canyons finished fourth in the women's meet with 33 event points to outpace fifth place Santa Barbara City College (32) and Allan Hancock College (26) in sixth. Cuesta College (156) won the women's side followed by runner-up Ventura (137) and meet host Bakersfield (132) close behind in third.
For the men's team Cougar freshman Phillip Vizmanos won the pole vault with the day's high mark (3.2m /10' 6").
Tylan Cook (100m/11.29), Matthew Ballentine (Javelin/34.59m/113' 6") and Felix Breitbach (800m/2:07.51) all scored points with fourth place results in their respective events.
Bakersfield (166) won the meet followed by Ventura (101), Santa Barbara (89), Cuesta (86), Allan Hancock (83) and COC (29).

Canyons will next have the chance to compete against four-year programs at the two-day Beach Opener hosted by California State University, Long Beach on March 4-5. Events are set to get underway at 10 a.m. on both days.

- 4 x 400 Relay — The team of Ballentine, Breitbach, Joshua Christopher and Kory Bacon posted a time of 3:33.90.
