Cougars Track & Field Competes at LBCC Viking Invite

LONG BEACH — College of the Canyons competed at the Long Beach City College Viking Invitational on Friday, returning to action against a field of community college student-athletes.
Canyons freshman Layne Buck claimed another second place mark in the long jump event (6.46, 21'2.5"). Buck also took second in the triple jump event (12.82, 42'0.75").
COC freshman Brian Snoek set a personal best in the shot put (10.94m, 35'10.75") taking fifth in the field of 12.
Simon Sampson took second in the 100m (11.30) and third in the 200m (23.16) in events which both had fields of more than 30. Keyjon Wooten was a step behind in fourth place with a new personal best (11.37) and Jordan Anderson just behind him in fifth (11.43).
Felix Brietbach (2:09.04) and David Salazar (2:12.48) represented the Cougars in the 800m taking seventh and 10th, respectively, in the field of 24. Salazar also claimed a sixth-place finish in the 1500m (4:34.58).
On the women's side, Rebekah Brooks claimed eighth in both the 100m (13.51) and 200m (27.28).
COC freshman Trinity Winslow continued to represent the Cougars in hurdles, finishing fourth in both the 100h (18.68) and the 400h (1:19.69).

- 4 x 100m — The team of Anderson, Joshua Christopher, Tylyn Cook and Buck posted a time of 43.70, taking fifth.
Upcoming Schedule
Canyons will be back on the track March 24-25 at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic, with just the program's decathletes scheduled to compete.
The Cougars continue with a Western State Conference (WSC) meet on Friday, April 1 at Bakersfield College beginning at 1 p.m.
