Canyons Track Stands Out at Moorpark Invitational

College of the Canyons stayed consistent with another strong finish at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday.
The men's team claimed a second-place finish for the second week in a row and the women's team finished third in team standings.
On the women's side, COC sophomore Milca Osorio headed the distance events running to a fifth-place finish in the 800m (2:31.96) in the field of 22 runners with sophomore Emily Cruz a few paces back in ninth (2:42.72).
Osorio also claimed fourth place in the 1500m (5:01.02), again with Cruz following, this time in seventh (5:26.05).
This current Student-Athlete of the Week Samantha Rodriguez, represented the Cougars in the 100m, claiming the 10th spot out of 18 with her time 13.56.
Sophomore Trinity Winslow ran to a 2nd placed position in the 400h with a time of 1:11.55.
On the men's side, Joshua Christopher was 13th in the 100m with a time of 11.44 and later took 10th place with a time of 22.95 in the 200m event.
Christopher was also part of the 4x100m relay joining Kory Bacon, Layne Buck and Simon Sampson for a third-place finish.
Layne Buck leaped to his best mark of the year in the Long Jump event (6.74/22'1.5") taking first. He also lead the Cougars in the 400m in the third-place position (50.04). He was followed by freshman Jerome Hughes in seventh with his time of 51.81.
COC sophomore Cesar Tobar made way for Canyons in the 800m. His time of 2:04.16 earned him the 10th place position in the field of 32 runners.
COC's Thoren Quintanilla represented the Cougars in throws claiming sixth-place in the discus event (36.29m/118'9") and ninth in the shot put event (11.65m/38'2.75").
The Cougars are next set to compete at the two-day SoCal Combined Events Championship meet April 4-5.
