Canyons Stays Hot, Downs Grossmont 3-1
COC sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick finished the match with 16 kills and a .424 hitting percentage.
The COC women's volleyball team ended its day at the Grossmont College Quad Tourney by defeating host and 2014 state finalist Grossmont 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 16-25, 25-18).
Canyons (2-0) came out firing and hit an impressive .394 hitting percentage in the first set with a .284 hitting percentage for the match.
The Cougars were led by sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick who finished the match with 16 kills and a .424 hitting percentage. She also added 11digs to the defensive heavy Canyons team, which totaled 82 digs in the match.
COC freshman outside hitter Emily Bible added 14 kills and an impressive 21 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Erica Magee hit .462 against the Griffins.
Following up her 40-assist performance in the tourney's opening match, sophomore setter Katie Rutecki added 42 assists to help the Cougars get past a Grossmont, program that finished last season as the No. 3 ranked team in the state.
COC will next host Victor Valley College in its home opener at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Cougar Cage.
