No. 5 Canyons Looks Strong in 3-0 Win at Citrus
The Cougars post a .368 hitting percentage with 39 total kills in the match.
The No. 5 College of the Canyons women's volleyball team traveled to Citrus College on Friday and emerged with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13. 25-23) conference victory.
Canyons (13-2, 3-0) came out firing in the first set with 15 kills and a .480 hitting percentage.
Head coach Lisa Hooper's squad then continued its offensive dominance throughout the evening, totaling .368 hitting percentage with 39 total kills in the process.
The Cougars were once again led by their dynamic middle attack. COC sophomore middle hitter Erica Magee finished the match tied for team- and match-high kill totals with seven, while hitting an astounding .700.
COC freshman middle hitter Alexa Hesseldenz nearly matched her teammate with her six kills, while posting a .714 hitting percentage.
Canyons sophomore Camari McWright added to the mix with four kills of her own.
COC sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick tied Magee for the team lead with seven kills, to go with a .375 hitting percentage of her own.
Canyons setters Katie Rutecki and Emma Levanen combined for 32 assists on the night
COC also tallied seven aces, compared to just one for the Owls.
The Cougars return home at 6 p.m. Friday Oct. 16, as they host Glendale College (3-13, 1-2) in the Cougar Cage.
