Seven Cougars Named All-WSC, Three Earn Academic All-State Honors

The College of the Canyons cross country program saw a combined seven athletes across the men's and women's team earn All-Western State Conference (WSC) honors for the 2022 season, with three more earning Academic All-State Awards.
The All-WSC selections were based on individual results from the WSC Championship meet held at Arroyo Vista Community Park in Moorpark on Oct. 21.
COC freshman Sam Regez (16th/21:28.1) earned All-WSC Second-Team honors. Regez was the only runner to represent the Cougars' men's team at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship meet in Fresno on Nov. 19.
The other runner on COC's men's squad to earn WSC All-Conference honors was freshman Jerome Hughes (39th/23:06.8) with an Honorable Mention designation. As a team, Canyons placed seventh at the WSC Championships and later 19th at the CCCAA Southern California Championships.
The Cougars saw all five members of the women's team receive All-WSC honors.
Canyons sophomore Milca Osorio (5th/19.24.9) was the sole recipient to earn WSC All-WSC First-Team honors for the Cougars.
Maylani Perez, (21th/20:59.2), Joy Nakazawa (25th/22:11.4), Emily Cruz (27th/22:30) and Trinity Winslow (28th/22:32.1) were each recognized with All-WSC Second-Team Honors.
COC's women's team finished third at the WSC Championships before placing seventh at the CCCAA Southern California Championships and eventually 14th at the CCCAA State Championship meet.
2021 Academic All-State Awards
The Cougars also brought home a collection of academic awards with three members of the 2021 cross country team earning Academic All-State Awards for the prior year.
On the men's side it was Chanchoi Krasaesin and Alejandro Chavez named to the CCCAA Academic All-State Team. Perez was the recipient for the women's CCCAA Academic All-State Team.
