COC Breaks Orange Coast 13-Game Win Streak With 4-1 Victory

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - College of the Canyons pitcher Cory Jones improved to 3-0 on the season, as the Cougars downed No, 2 Orange Coast, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Orange Coast, ranked No. 2 in the state, had 14 victories against the Cougars, but COC was able to shutout their high-powered offense.
After giving up one run in the first inning, Jones threw seven straight shutout innings. He pitched eight sharp innings, allowing two hits, while striking out 10. Center fielder Kevin Lenik gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead when he belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
COC designated hitter Drew Sandler had an RBI double in the seventh inning and shortstop Chris Ornelas had an RBI single in the eighth inning. Drew Sandler pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pickup his first save of the season.
COC will travel to Allan Hancock on Tuesday, Feb. 28 for a 2 p.m. game.
