Roy Verdejo Named to Southern California Preseason All-American Team
In 2015 Verdejo led both the Cougars and the Western State Conference in home runs and RBIs.
After a breakout 2015 freshman campaign, College of the Canyons baseball player Roy Verdejo has been named to the 2016 Southern California Preseason All-American Team.
Verdejo, a Saugus High School graduate, led both the Cougars and the Western State Conference (WSC) in home runs (seven) and RBIs (37). His .357 batting average ranked second on the team and 11th in the conference.
The right fielder played in all 36 games for COC head coach Chris Cota in 2015, and also ranked second on the team in doubles (11) and runs (12).
Verdejo also earned a Gold Glove in the outfield after committing only one error the entire season.
Canyons is ranked No. 14 in Southern California according to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) preseason poll.
The Cougars will open the 2016 season on the road vs. East Los Angeles College on Thursday, Feb. 4.
