The College of the Canyons baseball team continued its hot start to the season by extending its win streak to five games with a 14-5 thumping of Allan Hancock College at Cougar Field on Thursday.
Canyons (5-0) is currently the No. 14 ranked team in the region according to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) preseason poll.
Four Cougars recorded multi-hit games vs. the Bulldogs, with sophomore third baseman Wyatt Hoppie going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, seven RBIs and four runs scored.
Adding to the offensive onslaught was first baseman Jake Spurlin who finished 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
COC leadoff man Colton Burns went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored.
Catcher Anthony Lepre was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored.
On the mound, sophomore Jacob Musial earned the win after pitching two and 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
COC freshman Justin Dehn started the game and threw well over his four and 1/3 innings of work, but exited after the Bulldogs started the fifth with three singles.
Freshman reliever Kris Keach also logged an inning of scoreless work.
Canyons will host San Diego Mesa College at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Cougar Field.
COC's four-game homestead concludes when the Cougars host No. 1 regionally ranked Orange Coast College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
