No. 14 College of the Canyons is a perfect 6-0 following a convincing 9-3 win over visiting San Diego Mesa College at Cougar Field on Saturday.

On Saturday, Canyons did its scoring early with runs in five of the first six innings.
Sophomore right fielder Roy Verdejo doubled in a run to put the Cougars on the board in the first inning, and had that effort followed with an RBI-single by sophomore Austin Cole.
The Olympians finally plated a run in the fifth inning to make it a 4-1 game. However, Canyons answered right back with three more runs in their next at-bat.
JD Krauskopf ripped an RBI double to get things started again for COC. Then, with runners in scoring position Colton Burns singled to right field bringing two more runs home and giving Canyons a comfortable 7-2 lead.
Burns finished the day 4-for-5 with a run, stolen base and two RBIs. Krauskopf was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Verdejo was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Elsewhere in the lineup first baseman Jake Spurlin was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and a run. Chad Bible also drove home two runs on a 2-for-4 day.
COC pitcher Chase Wheatcroft earned the win after allowing one earned run and striking our four batters in six innings of work.
Canyons will next host No. 1 regionally ranked Orange Coast College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
