Cougars Fall 7-3 in Second Loss to Orange Coast
COC pushed across a pair of runs on fifth inning RBI-singles from Anthony Medina and Calvin Estrada.
No. 15 College of the Canyons suffered a 7-3 home loss to No. 2 Orange Coast College on Tuesday, as Pirates first baseman Eric Wagaman slugged three home runs to help defeat the Cougars.
Canyons (7-6) had fallen behind 6-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, before battling back to score runs in back-to-back innings.
Meanwhile, Orange Coast (13-2) put together a four-run effort in the third inning on consecutive home runs from Wagaman and Jake Gozzo.
COC starter Jacob Lopez (0-1) lasted three and 2/3 innings before giving way to the Cougar bullpen. He was charged with six earned runs while walking two and striking out two.
Jack Kernochan pitched three and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for COC. Connor Dreyer and Sean Ward each worked an inning apiece, with Ward allowing a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Cougars made some noise in the fourth inning with an RBI-single from Wes Felber that made it 6-1.
In the fifth, COC pushed across another pair of runs on RBI-singles from Anthony Medina and Calvin Estrada to make it 6-3. But that was as close as the Cougars would get.
With Tuesday's win, OCC sweeps the two-game set vs. Canyons, having previously won 11-3 on Saturday.
COC returns to action at Cougar Field on Thursday, March 2, in a 2 p.m. contest vs. Santa Ana College.
