Seven Cougars Earn All-Conference Awards
The College of the Canyons football team saw seven Cougars earn all-conference awards, including three first-team accolades for sophomore cornerback Arron Fisher, freshman tight end Mychal Rivera and sophomore wide receiver D.J. Stephens.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. –The College of the Canyons football team saw seven Cougars earn all-conference awards, including three first-team accolades for sophomore cornerback Arron Fisher, freshman tight end Mychal Rivera and sophomore wide receiver D.J. Stephens.
Fisher is now a two-time all-conference honoree and was the only all-conference player to return to the 2009 squad. The sophomore from Orlando, Fla., had 34 tackles, 28 solo, a team high 14 pass break ups and an interception.
Birmingham alum Rivera was second on the team in receiving yards with 27 catches for 270 yards and two scores, in his first season as a Cougar.
Sophomore Stephens had 52 catches for 827 yards and six touchdowns to lead the team in receiving yards. The Kennedy graduate had his best game against Pasadena City when he earned 132 yards receiving and 101 punt return yards.
The Cougars now have had 217 players earn all-conference honors since football returned to college in 1998.
First-Team Offense
Freshman Tight End Mychal Rivera (Birmingham) – 27 catches for 270 yards and two TDs
Sophomore Wide Receiver DJ Stephens (Kennedy) – 52 catches for 827 yards and six TDs
First-Team Defense
Sophomore Cornerback Arron Fisher (West Orange, Fla.) – 34 tackles, 28 solo, one interception and 14 pass break ups
Second-Team Defense
Sophomore Defensive Tackle Jake Tepper (Grant) – 13 tackles, six solo, and 1.5 sacks
Sophomore Inside Linebacker Evan Harrington(Bowie, Md.) - 63 tackles, 39 solo, 5.5 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles
Freshman Defensive End Jeremy Boone (Shaker Heights, Ohio) – 51 tackles, 21 solo, 3.5 sacks, one pass break up and fumble recovery
Freshman Safety Kenny Shanahan (Canyon) – 66 tackles, 42 solo, one sack and five pass break ups
