Canyons Finishes Regular Season With Victory Over Allan Hancock
The College of the Canyons football team closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 47-36 victory over Allan Hancock College at Cougar Stadium.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons football team closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 47-36 victory over Allan Hancock College at Cougar Stadium. The Cougars improve to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in National Division, Northern Conference play.
Freshman running back Andre Davis rushed for 131 yards on 13 attempts and scored one touchdown, while freshman wide receiver Tim White had three catches for 123 yards and two scores.
After COC and AHC traded scores for the first three quarters of the game, Canyons used three plays to go 75 yards, which was capped off by a 22-yard run from Davis into the end zone.
The COC defense held off the Bulldogs on their ensuing possession and freshman Antonio Guy blocked Allan Hancock's punt to set up the offense with a short field.
One play later, freshman quarterback Ryan Kasdorf found freshman wide receiver Kwasi Washington for a 11-yard touchdown pass to give COC a sizeable lead.
Kasdorf finished the game 15-of-19 for 328 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman running back Drew Phillips rushed 12 times for 103 yards with one touchdown and had three receptions for 83 yards and a score.
Allan Hancock jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead by scoring on the game's opening drive.
COC responded on its drive with five plays that were capped off with a 11-yard pass from Kasdorf to White, to give COC a 7-6 lead.
Canyons and Hancock traded touchdowns to end the first quarter, to give COC a 14-13 lead.
COC took a touchdown lead in the second quarter as Phillips pulled down a 68-yard touchdown pass, his longest reception of the season, to give the Cougars a 20-13 lead. Hancock would tie it up again to end the first half and knot the two teams at 20.
After the break, Canyons came out and scored on its first possession when Kasdorf took the offense 69 yards on nine plays and finished it off with an 11-yard run into the end zone and a 27-20 advantage.
On the following Allan Hancock drive, the Bulldogs scored again, but this time, the Cougars blocked the extra point, once again holding Hancock behind by one.
COC and Hancock exchanged scores once again to end the third, but the defense was not able to hold off a two-point conversion to tie the score at 34-all going into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore defensive back Jesse Sampson led the defense will 11 tackles and sophomore corner Sam Lee had one interception with a 67 yard return.
COC will travel to Santa Ana College on Saturday, Nov. 17, for the Southern California Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
