COC Beats Antelope Valley in Double Overtime

Canyons had a chance to win the game in regulation after the Cougars on an eight-play, 63-yard drive that landed COC at the Antelope Valley 5-yard line with 12 seconds left in the game. But following a drive that saw quarterback Ryan Kasdorf go 4-of-6, the signal caller threw a interception that gave the ball back to the Marauders.
Following a scoreless first overtime period, AVC took possession of the ball. After a 7-yard carry into the end zone, COC's special team blocked the Marauder's PAT. On the Cougar's third play from scrimmage, Kasdorf hit freshman receiver Tim White for 21 yards to the Marauders' 2-yard line. One play later Davis carried the ball over the goal line for the score and Franklin hit the PAT for the game winner.
Davis finished the game with five carries for eight yards and three touchdowns, for his first carries and scores of the season. Kasdorf added a pair of touchdowns on the ground and was 36-of-57 for 499 yards through the air. His main receiving target on the evening was White, who finished a career game with 13 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
Canyons' defense, which held the Marauder quarterbacks to 240 passing yards on the evening, was led by freshman Vanard Placide, who finished with nine tackles. Sophomore Justyn Eddins finished with eight tackles and a pass break up and freshman Nathan Mitogo, added eight tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks. Freshman Lance Poole added one interception with a 40-yard return.
With the victory, COC improves to 2-4 on the season. Canyons will return to conference action on Saturday, Oct. 13 as they host 6-0 Ventura College at 7 p.m.
