Canyons Wide Receiver Nick Jones Named SCFA Offensive Player of Week
Jones caught eight passes for 177 yards and a touchdown in COC's 42-24 win over Allan Hancock
College of the Canyons freshman wide receiver Nick Jones has been named the Southern California Football Association (SCF) Northern League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Allan Hancock in week seven.
Jones was pivotal in No. 5 Canyons' 42-24 victory over No. 19 Allan Hancock on Saturday, as the Valencia High School graduate finished the contest with eight catches for 177 yards and a touchdown.
Jones also registered a long gain of 68 yards, while averaging an impressive 22.1 yards per catch.
On the season, Jones has 42 catches for 864 yards and five touchdowns, to lead the Cougars in all categories. Those totals also rank second in the conference.
His 123.4 receiving yards per game and 20.6 yards per catch are also tops in the Northern League.
Canyons has now had a player honored as player of the week on five separate occasions this season.
COC quarterback Devon Dunn received the offensive award in weeks one and three, defensive back Triston Brown won the defensive award in week 2 and linebacker Paul Puebla took the same honor in week four.
Additionally, the Cougars are currently the No. 5 ranked team in the state and No. 4 team in Southern California, according to the most recent statewide coaches polls released Oct. 26.
Canyons (6-1, 3-0) will continue its conference schedule at home vs. No. 14 Ventura College (4-3, 2-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
