No. 11 Canyons to Host No. 8 Grossmont College on Saturday
All players, coaches and cheerleaders associated with an SCV youth sports league/cheer organization are invited to attend Saturday's game for FREE.
College of the Canyons will play its fifth regular season game as the Cougars host the Grossmont College Griffins at Cougar Stadium. Saturday's game is a non-conference contest.
Canyons (2-2) enters as the No. 11 ranked team in the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, according to the most recent California Community College Athletic Association/California Community College Football Coaches Association Regional State Football Poll. Grossmont (3-1) is ranked No. 8.
These two programs last met in 2011, with the Griffins defeating COC 38-14 in El Cajon. Grossmont also leads the all-time series 6-3, dating back to the 1978 season. However, the Cougars have had some success vs. the Griffins.
In 2004, Canyons defeated Grossmont 30-0 in the semifinal round of the Southern California Football Playoffs, before going on to win both a State and National Championship. The following season, COC earned a 32-22 regular season win against the Griffins in week two, but eventually lost to Grossmont 24-19 in the Southern California Championship Game.
The Cougars will come into the game looking to rebound after back-to-back losses to two of the state's top ranked teams. In week four, the Cougars lost 41-14 to No. 4 Long Beach City College. Prior to that, the Cougars were defeated 59-14 at No. 3 Fullerton College.
The Griffins suffered a 17-10 loss to No. 13 Chaffey College in week four after starting the season 3-0.
