No. 10 Canyons to Host No. 7 Ventura in Northern Conference Opener

College of the Canyons will play its sixth regular season game as the Cougars host the Ventura College Pirates on Saturday, in a Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern Conference contest at Cougar Stadium.

Canyons (2-3) enters as the No. 10 ranked team in the SCFA National Division, according to the most recent California Community College Athletic Association/California Community College Football Coaches Association Regional State Football Poll. Ventura (3-2) is ranked No. 7.
These two programs last met in 2015, with the Pirates defeating COC 54-48 at Cougar Stadium. Ventura has won three of the last four matchups dating back to the 2012 season. However, Canyons leads the all-time series 17-10, including a run of eight straight victories from 2000 to 2008.
Tonight's game comes on the heels of a week six bye for both programs. Canyons was defeated 49-27 by visiting No. 8 Grossmont College in its last outing.
Likewise, Ventura was defeated 49-20 by No. 1 Saddleback College in week five. The Pirates have lost back-to-back games after starting the season 3-0.
Statistically, the Cougars have been led by quarterback CJ Williams (57-of-114, 821 passing yards, eight touchdowns, two INTs), wide receiver Marquise Brown (20 receptions, 393 yards and seven total touchdowns), and running back Tylan McBride (30 carries, 184 yards and three touchdowns).
On the defensive side, safety Hayden Wright leads the team with 30 tackles, while defensive lineman Dorian Gerald has recorded six sacks.
