Canyons Powers Past San Diego Mesa
Tullio Parry posts 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals
SAN JACINTO, Calif. — College of the Canyons powered their way to a victory over San Diego Mesa College winning 87-68 on Friday night.
COC led wire-to-wire and dominated the boards, outrebounding the Olympians 52-29. The Cougars also hustled their way to 27 second-chance points.
Freshman Coley Apsay once again led the balanced attack while leading the team in scoring with 27 points and adding four assists and three steals.
Despite only shooting 36.4 percent in the first half, the Cougars were able to enter halftime with a two-point, 35-33 lead. COC led by as many as 14 in the first half, but saw the lead diminish to two headed into the break.
Apsay and sophomore forward Ricardo Greaves each finished the first half with eight points. Greaves also had five rebounds.
The Cougars came out firing in the second half, eventually pulling ahead to a 21-point lead.
Three Cougars scored in double digits in the second half alone. Tullio Parry scored 10 points. Coley Apsay scored 19 points and Victor Nwaba scored 12. Parry also dominated on the boards collecting eight rebounds in the second half alone.
Parry contributed heavily in the victory, filling in stats all over the box score with 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Victor Nwaba was the Cougars second leading scorer in the game with 14 points and added seven rebounds.
The win brings COC's record to 4-3 on the season. The Cougars will next play Chaffey College in the consolation bracket of the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops & Hops Tournament on Saturday.
