Cougars to Tip Season at 8th Annual 'Clash at Canyons' Tournament
Also participating in the event are Cuyamaca, East L.A. and Oxnard, with games running Nov. 6 & 7.
The College of the Canyons men's basketball team will open the 2015-16 season by hosting the Eighth Annual 'Clash at Canyons' tournament Nov. 6-7 at the Cougar Cage.
Also participating in the event are Cuyamaca College, East Los Angeles College and Oxnard College.
Tournament action begins at 5 p.m. on Friday with East L.A. and Cuyamaca squaring off in the early game.
Canyons will then tip off vs. Oxnard College in game two beginning at 7 p.m.
The action will continue at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, with matchups determined by Friday's results.
East L.A. won the 2014 'Clash at Canyons' tourney, with the Cougars finishing as runners up.
Canyons will return three players from last year's squad, which finished the 2014-15 regular season with a 15-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division to earn a berth into the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.
East L.A. finished last season with a record of 22-11 to finish second in the South Coast Conference, North Division. After a deep postseason run, the Huskies concluding their season with a loss to Saddleback College in the CCCAA State Championship game.
The Huskies will open the season as the No. 16 ranked team in the state and the No. 8 team in Southern California according to the statewide coaches' association pre-season poll.
Cuyamaca College finished 7-19 to finish third in the Pacific Coast Conference, South Division.
Meanwhile, Oxnard College finished its 2014-15 campaign with a record of 4-18 and 3-9 in the WSC, North, to place sixth.
