Men’s Golf Team Wins Fifth Consecutive WSC Title
The College of the Canyons men’s golf team won two conference tournaments on Monday afternoon to win the Cougar’s fifth consecutive conference title and earned a bid to the Southern California Championships at Pauma Valley Country Club.
PASADENA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons men's golf team won two conference tournaments on Monday afternoon to win the Cougar's fifth consecutive conference title and earned a bid to the Southern California Championship at Pauma Valley Country Club.
The Western State Conference title marks the 20th for the men's golf program, which were all earned under 30-year head coach Gary Peterson. The Cougars have been the top team in the conference for the past 15-of-17 years, while winning the last five titles.
Canyons carded a 339 and a 373 in two rounds at the conference finals to go 14-0 and finish the season with a 66-4 record. Santa Barbara City College came in second with a 55-15 record and Ventura College came in third place with a 52-18 record.
In the first round, Canyons tallied a 339 and led Santa Barbara, which turned in a 358. Jonas Guriby Dahl turned in a season-best 65 and Sidney Wolf notched a 66. Aaron Grimes turned in a 68 and Edouard Fiszel and Sebastian Fiedorow rounded out the scoring with 70s.
In the second round Clayton Chatterley carded a 73 to lead College of the Canyons to a 373. Grimes and Dahl turned in 74s, followed by Fiszel with a 75 and Wolf with a 77.
The Cougars will begin to defend their 2013 state championship on Monday, May 5 at Pauma Valley Country Club.
