Canyons Wins Again as Cougars Dominate at Oakmont Country Club

In a pattern that is becoming increasingly familiar, the first place College of the Canyons men's golf team won another conference tourney on Monday, pulling out a five-stroke victory of second place Santa Barbara City College.
Canyons carded a five-man score of 386 at Oakmont Country Club. SBCC was second at 391 while Ventura College settled for third at 398.
Freshman Jason McGuinness was the low man for the Cougars with a score of 75, to also place second individually at the event.
Will Barnett, who sits atop the Western State Conference (WSC) individual standings after right rounds of play, was next in line for the Cougars with a score of 76. That mark was good enough to claim the tourney's fourth place slot.
Barnett's season score of 592 strokes puts him nine ahead of the next closest competitor, Manny Manzone (601) of SBCC.
Jaeyeol Kim (76) finished in eighth place overall, Matt Cheng (79) and Ben Campbell (79) rounded out the Cougars' top-five while ranking tied for 12th place. Austin Dobrescu had his score of 80 scratched, despite finished 14th in the field of 47.
Canyons is currently the No. 2 ranked team in Southern California, according to CalCCGolf.com.
The Cougars have posted a win/loss record of 54-2 across eight WSC tournaments.
COC will next hit the links at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, for a neutral site WSC event on April 18.
