Canyons Win Streak at Five After Performance at Bear Creek
The Cougars are a combined 61-2 in tournament play, having won eight of nine WSC events this season to sit in first place.
The College of the Canyons men's golf team was in top form once again on Monday, as the Cougars turned in a five-man score of 376 to place first in the eight-team field at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta.
COC was able to hold off second place Santa Barbara City College (389) and third place Ventura College (397).
By winning the neutral site tournament, which is the last Western State Conference (WSC) event before the conference finals on April 25, COC has now won five straight tournaments.
The Cougars are a combined 61-2 in tournament play, having won eight of nine WSC events this season to sit in first place.
Individually, three Cougars rank within the conference's top five, with freshman Will Barnett currently seven strokes ahead of the second ranked player.
Freshman Matt Cheng and Jaeyeol Kim rank third and fourth, respectively.
On Monday, Kim was the top finisher for Canyons with a score of 70.
Barnett ranked second for COC with a score of 74 and Jason McGuinnes was third at 76.
Ben Campbell and Ricardo Torres both finished with rounds of 78.
Canyons is currently the No. 2 ranked team in Southern California, according to CalCCGolf.com.
The Cougars are the defending California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Champions.
COC will next compete at the WSC Finals being held at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield on April 25.
The CCCAA SoCal Championships will then be held May 9, with that event also taking place at Bear Creek Golf Club.
The CCCAA State Championship is slated to take place May 16, at Desert Island Golf and Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
