COC Takes Care Of Business In First Real Test
In front of a loud crowd, College of the Canyons men's soccer team defeated 2009 state runner-up Taft College 2-1.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - In front of a loud crowd, College of the Canyons men's soccer team defeated 2009 state runner-up Taft College 2-1. The score did not dictate the amount of confusion that ensued after the blow of the official's whistle. Sophomore Andres Bueno netted a penalty kick in the 18th minute of the game to put COC up 1-0. COC built on its lead again in the 41st minute when Jesus Salazar made a kick in traffic, with an assist from Carlos Hernandez. Taft would score in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome COC's lead. In the final minutes of the game, Noe Ramirez picked up a red card. To make matters worse, after the final whistle was blown, COC's Jose Reyes and the Taft head coach were given red cards by the officials. COC will travel north to Santa Rosa College on Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
