SANTA MONICA, Calif. — College of the Canyons forward Andy Ruiz scored the lone goal in what was one of the few bright spots in COC's 3-1 loss to Santa Monica College on Friday afternoon.
COC suffered its first conference defeat of the season while losing its first game in more than a month.
Canyons led the game early on, but the Cougr defense allowed three Corsair scores and entered the halftime break down 3-1. Santa Monica would eventually hold on for the victory.
COC goalkeeper Steven Rodriguez faced pressure for much of the match, facing eight shots on goal and making five saves.
The loss drops COC's record to 6-2-4 overall and a 4-1-4 record against Western State Conference opponents.
COC next hosts Glendale Community College at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, on the college's upper field. The two teams last played to a scoreless draw earlier in the season.
