Canyons men's soccer to host Palomar in home opener Aug. 26
COC and Palomar will square off at 5 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 26, at the COC soccer facility. The Cougars will play five of their first seven games at home.
The College of the Canyons men's soccer team will take the field in Saturday's season opener vs. Palomar College with a young roster eager to make a name for itself in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division.
COC head coach Phil Marcellin and the Cougars are looking to improve on last season's mark of 8-12-2, which included a 4-5-1 record vs. conference opponents, good for a fourth place finish.
Returning to action for the Cougars is sophomore forward Aaron Winsick who earned All-WSC Honorable Mention recognition after netting three goals as a freshman.
Joining the offensive attack is sophomore forward Joshua Ausherman who tied for the team lead with four goals in 2016.
Defensively, COC will call on sophomore defenders Jesus Mejia, Bryan Guevara and Isaac Dominguez to anchor the Cougars backline.
Canyons opens the season by playing five of its first seven games on its home turf.
After Saturday's season opener COC will prep for an evening match with Fullerton College on Tuesday, Aug. 29. A week later the Cougars host Oxnard College under the lights on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
COC then heads north to take part in the annual Northern California Community College showcase hosted by Cosumnes River College on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Canyons and Palomar square off at 5 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 26, at the COC soccer facility located on the college's Valencia campus. Admission to all men's soccer home games is FREE.
