No. 5 Canyons Set To Host No. 12 Saddleback In Playoff Action
College of the Canyons softball team continued its season on Saturday afternoon as the Cougars were named the No. 5 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Southern California Regional and will host No. 12 Saddleback College in a best-of-three series on May 4-5.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - College of the Canyons softball team continued its season on Saturday afternoon as the Cougars were named the No. 5 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Southern California Regional and will host No. 12 Saddleback College in a best-of-three series on May 4-5.
College of the Canyons is coming off its second consecutive Western State Conference, Blue Division championship. It is the third time under head coach John Wissmath that the Cougars have won the conference crown. COC finished the 2013 regular season at 30-8-2 overall and posted a 18-0 conference record.
Saddleback College finished in fifth place in the Orange Empire Conference after going 22-14 overall and 11-10 in conference play.
The winner of the COC/Saddleback match-up will advance to the Southern California Super Regionals, set for May 10-12 and hosted by the two remaining top-seeded teams.
Bakersfield College will play host to this year's softball state championships, being held May 17-19.
The first playoff game will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. Game 2 is slated to begin Sunday, May 5 at noon. Game 3, if necessary, will begin 30 minutes following Game 2. Tickets can only be purchased at the gate and are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
