Several Cougars Shine at WSC Swim Meet No. 2

The College of the Canyons swim team competed in Western State Conference (WSC) meet No. 2 on Friday, with several Cougars performing well.
One day after sweeping both women's dive events at WSC dive meet No. 2, COC freshman Alexis Kearns was back in the pool, where she proceeded to take first place in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 27.15 seconds.
COC sophomore Cherise Swindel finished just behind the pace set by Kearns to take second place in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.46
Fellow freshmen Alyssa Velaquez (1:00.13) and Alyssa San Lucas (1:00.61) finished second and third, respectively, in the women's 100-yard freestyle.
On the men's side, COC sophomore Phillip Wong took first place in the men's 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:06.58, while freshman Naphong Aneksirikul placed second in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:13.14.
Freshman Ryan Swindel also swam to a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle event, clocking a time of 23.42.
Canyons will next compete in WSC meet No. 3 on Saturday, March 28, at Santa Barbara City College.
