Canyons Swims Well at 15th Annual Pasadena Invite
Cougars are included among a field of more than 500 swimmers from 30 colleges across the state.
The COC swim & dive teams participated competed at last weekend's 15th Annual Pasadena Invitational for the first time in program history.
Attracting a field of more than 500 swimmers from 30 colleges across the state, the Pasadena Invite serves as one of the final competitive meets before the upcoming WSC championships and SoCal/State Championships later this month.
COC had several strong individual performers at the meet, which saw a total of 19 new event records set over the two days of competition held April 3-4.
Canyons freshman Garrett McQueen was the Cougars' only first place finisher at the meet with a win in the 100-yard backstroke. McQueen also took 12th place in the 200-yard backstroke.
McQueen was joined by Naphong Aneksirikul, Ryan Swindell and Phllip Wong to form COC's 400-yard and 200-yard medley relay teams, which finished 11th and 12th respectively.
Wong also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly.
The COC women's relay teams also swam well. The foursome of Jessica Yamauchi, Monica Hamilton, Alysa Velasquez and Alexis Kearns put together a 12th place finish in the 400-yard medley relay on the first day of competition.
On Saturday, the combination of Yamauchi, Velasquez, Kearns and Alyssa San Lucas took ninth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay to help close out the meet.
Kearns also performed well in the dive events, taking second place in the women's 1 meter and fourth place in the women's 3 meter events.
Canyons will next compete in the Western State Conference Swim Finals being held at Ventura College April 16-18.
