Canyons Swim/Dive Teams Conclude WSC Regular Season
COC men's and women's team both finish in third place, while freshman Alexis Kearns sweeps women's dive events.
The College of the Canyons swim and dive team participated in the final Western State Conference (WSC) meet of the season on Saturday, with Canyons faring well both individually and collectively.
The COC women's team finished in third place behind second place Ventura College and first place finisher Santa Barbara City College, which hosted the event.
COC's men's team finished in third place behind second place Pierce College and first place Ventura.
Cougar sophomore Philip Wong posted the top finish for Canyons by taking first in the 200-yard breaststroke at a time of 2:24.97. Wong also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:10.47.
On the women's side, Cherise Swindell took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.92 and freshman Alyssa Velasquez took second place in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:00.31
And, after once again taking first place in both the one meter and three meter dive events at last week's WSC dive meet, COC freshman Alexia Kearns completed a near-sweep of the 2015 dive schedule.
Kearns began the season with first place finishes in both events at WSC meet No. 1. Then, had to settle for a first place in the one meter and a second place the three meter at WSC Dive meet No. 2 on March 19.
Kearns will next look to continue that success at the WSC/SoCal Dive Finals on April 10-11.
The COC swim and five team will next compete at the 2015 Pasadena City College Invite on April 3-4.
