White Has Strong Competition Among Olympic-Caliber Triple Jumpers
Competing against a 2012 Olympian, the 2013 US Outdoor Champion and the 2014 Indoor Champion, College of the Canyons sophomore Tim White finished in fifth place in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon at the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays Elite Meet.

WALNUT, Calif. – Competing against a 2012 Olympian, the 2013 US Outdoor Champion and the 2014 Indoor Champion, College of the Canyons sophomore Tim White finished in fifth place in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon at the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays Elite Meet.
The 2013 US Junior Champion posted a season-best 16.45 meters (53-11.75) and was the youngest competitor in the 10-man field and only jumper who had not competed with a Division I or II track and field program.
Omar Craddock, the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Champion and 2013 Outdoor NCAA Division I Champion in the triple jump, won the event with a leap of 17.26 meters (56-7½). Chris Bernard, 2012 Pac-12 triple jump champion, came in second place after posting a 17.09 meter (56-1) jump. 2012 Olympian Samyr Laine turned in a third-place performance earning a mark of 16.55 meters (54-3¾) and 2014 US Indoor Triple Jump Champion and six-time Conference USA Champion Chris Carter turned in a fourth-place performance with a 16.50 meter (54-1¾) jump.
The meet marked the first time White has competed against Olympic level track and field athletes. He was the only current community college jumper in the event and was one of three student-athletes. The other college students were from Division I University of Mississippi and Division II Adams State.
White will begin to defend his 2013 state title on Friday, April 25 at the Western State Conference Finals at Antelope Valley College.
