College of the Canyons track & field posted another strong day, led by sophomore Jasmine Hall who placed first in the 100h and long jump events to lead the Cougars at Friday's Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic, hosted by Occidental College.
For the second time in as many weeks COC competed against a field that included student-athletes from several four-year programs.
Hall's pace of 14.73 in the 100h not only bested the field but also represented a season best time. Her leap of 5.56m in the long jump was the best of the day. Hall also earned a fourth place finish in the 100m at a time of 12.64.
Sophomore Samiyah Hawkins was the other event winner for Canyons, taking first place in the discus with a toss of 37.75m. She followed that up with a seventh place result in the shot put at 10.89m.
Dana Bowers finished just ahead of Hawkins with a sixth place throw of 10.96m in the shot put. Bowers also ranked fourth in the javelin at 32.47m.
Diontre Harris was a fourth place finisher in the shot put at 13.68m.
Meanwhile, the combination of Buncio, Cavallaro, David Moreno and Lambert took fifth with a result of 43.05.
Elsewhere, Weston Lombardo vaulted himself to a seventh place mark of 4.10m in the pole vault, while Zachary Larson placed 11th at 3.95m.
Larson also turned in a 10th place finish in the 100h at 16.43. Eric Sachs was 12th in the javelin at 41.61m.
Canyons will look to continue its strong run at next week's Antelope Valley College Invitational being held Friday, March 17, at Carder Marauder Stadium. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
