SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons women's basketball team earned a No. 7 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host No. 10 Mt. San Jacinto on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
Winners of 13 straight, the 2009 Western State Conference, South Division champions will look to go deep into the playoffs after losing in the first round last season to Saddleback College.
Mt. San Jancinto finished the season with an identical 23-8 record like the Cougars and tied for second place in the Foothill Conference.
COC was one of two teams from the WSC South in the 18-team regional playoff. The Cougars could meet up with fellow WSC South conference member Citrus College in the regional finals if the Owls defeat Pierce and Ventura.
Mt. San Jacinto is the only non-WSC team in the Cougars' bracket, which is led by WSC North team Ventura College.
The winner of the game will take on the winner of No. 15 Pierce/No. 18 Citrus vs. No. 2 Ventura on Saturday, March 6. The winner of that regional final will advance to the state tournament in Fresno.
Tickets for the game can only be bought at the door. General admission is $8 and $5 for students, staff, seniors and children under 12.
