SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons women's basketball guard Kelli Lewis has signed a letter of intent with the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
Lewis, the recipient of First-Team All-State and All-Conference awards, averaged 14.7 ppg and 4.7 apg during the 2010-2011 campaign. The Hart High School alum also helped lead the Cougars to back-to-back conference championships and amassed a 46-13 record during her two years as a guard.
"Kelli overcame a few physical injuries early in her career to become one of the all-time great players in program history," COC head women's basketball coach Greg Herrick said. "She made her teammates better and her leadership will be difficult to replace. Personally, I will miss her loyalty and dedication to the program."
Lewis will join former Cougar Ashley Wakefield who transferred to Pacific last season and will be a junior this upcoming season, after sitting out last year. Lewis becomes the third Cougar women's basketball player in as many years to transfer to the Stockton university. Former COC women's basketball player Arielle White finished her final year with the Tigers last season.
The University of the Pacific is a member of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. The Tigers finished the 2010-2011 campaign with a record of 9-22 overall and 5-11 in conference.
Lewis becomes the 31st Cougar to earn a scholarship to a four-year program under Herrick's advisement.
