Women's Basketball Garners All-State Honors
College of the Canyons women's basketball players - Kelli Lewis and Jazzmyn Davis - were named to the California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s All-State Team.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons women's basketball players - Kelli Lewis and Jazzmyn Davis - were named to the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association's All-State Team. Lewis, a sophomore guard, was named first-team all-state and freshman forward Davis earned third-team all-state honors.
"I am very proud of the announcement that both Kelli Lewis and Jazzmyn Davis were selected to the 2011 All-State basketball team," COC head women's basketball coach Greg Herrick said. "Both players are well deserving of this recognition and I commend them both."
Lewis led the team in scoring with 14.7 ppg and shot 40.3 percent (152-of-377) from the field and a blazing 38.5 percent (90-of-234) from the 3-point line. The first-team all-conference pick also dished out 4.7 apg and pulled down 3.1 rpg during the 2010-11 campaign.
"After receiving the most votes by the coaches for All-Western State Conference last month and being recognized as one of the top six players in Southern California, it only confirmed our feelings that Kelli Lewis belonged on the first-team," Herrick said.
Davis was the Cougar's second-leading scorer, turning in 13.4 ppg and a team high 10.6 rpg. During conference play, South Division season she was COC's top scorer with 18.2 ppg and 12.5 rpg and was named All-WSC for her efforts.
"Jazzmyn's selection to the third team was a pleasant surprise," Herrick said. "Only a freshman, the voters were obviously impressed with her consistent play and overall improvement. We are happy for Jazzmyn and look forward to her returning next season."
The Cougars finished the season with a 24-8 record and won their 13th conference championship.
