COC Comes In Third At Ventura Tournament
For the third time in four years (Canyons won the tournament in 2010), the College of the Canyons women's basketball team claimed third place at the Ventura College-Kiwanis Club Tournament of Champions with a 98-75 victory over Taft College on Sunday.
VENTURA, Calif. - For the third time in four years (Canyons won the tournament in 2010), the College of the Canyons women's basketball team claimed third place at the Ventura College-Kiwanis Club Tournament of Champions with a 98-75 victory over Taft College on Sunday.
The Cougars fell behind early but mounted a ferocious comeback late in the first half to lead at halftime, 47-35. Bev Weaver's four 3-pointers in the first half paced Canyons to the early lead .
The second half proved much like the first half with the Cougars fast breaking to bust the game open midway through the second half.
Jazzmyn Davis led four Cougars with double figures scoring 24 while Amanda Ajdari's 21 and 14 assists, Weaver's 17, Angelica Sahagun's 12 and Casey Scheller's 10 off the bench paced the scoring.
Sahagun, who suffered a minor injury midway through the second half and didn't return, was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Cougars are off for 10 days and return to campus on Dec. 7 for their home opener against Cypress.
