Canyons Falls to Tourney Host Mt. SAC in Championship Game
COC guard Qimmah Russo leads all scorers with 18 points
WALNUT, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's basketball team's early hot streak to open the season came to an end in the championship game of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tournament with COC falling 68-57 to the host Mounties.
Cougars guard Qimmah Russo led all scorers with 18 points on 11-for-12 shooting from the charity stripe, and added three assists, two blocks and two steals to the stat sheet before her night was done.
After being outscored 31-19 in the first half, COC was forced to play from behind throughout the final 20 minutes of action.
Nayiri Aslanian also had a strong day for COC, finishing with an impressive 14-points and 12 rebounds.
For the third straight game, the Cougars outperformed an opponent from both the three-point line and from the charity stripe. Unfortunately, the Cougars committed too many turnovers, which proved to be their undoing.
COC will next face Laney College in the opening round of the Ventura-Kiwanis Tournament which gets underway Friday, Nov. 28.
The Cougars previously defeated Laney 86-70 in the second round of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tourney.
