COC Gets Past Laney for Second Time This Season
Five Cougars score in double figures
VENTURA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's basketball team won its third game of the season, defeating Laney College 71-56 in the opening game of the Ventura-Kiwanis Tournament in Ventura, California.
The Cougars were led by a balanced attack on offense. Five players scored in double figures, with freshman guard Julie Ilsby leading the way with 12 points and four assists.
Qimmah Russo scored 11 points and added three steals.
Amber Evans and Jordan Oster both scored in double figures coming off the bench. Oster scored 11 points shooting 4-of-9 from the field. Evans scored 10 points and filled the stat sheet adding four rebounds, an assist and three steals.
The Cougars got help from the defense, allowing Laney to shoot only 26.2 percent from the field, while also piling up 14 steals.
Canyons previosuley defeated Laney College in the second round of the Mt. SAC tourney on Nov. 8.
The Cougars will next take on Mt. San Antonio College in the second round of the Ventura-Kiwainis Tournament on Nov. 29.
