Canyons is Bested by Bakersfield 77-72

The College of the Canyons women's basketball team headed to Bakersfield College winners of back-to-back game and looking for more. However, the Cougars were forced to leave town empty handed at the Renegades pulled out the 77-72 vicory.
Canyons is now 16-12 on the season, with a 6-7 mark vs. Western State Conference, South opponents.
COC head coach Greg Herrick received a solid effort from his squad, with three of the Cougar starters scoring in double digits.
Freshman forward Monica Friedl led the way again, scoring 20 points to go with nine rebounds and two blocks. Friedl has now scored 20 or more points in five straight games.
Elsewhere on the stat sheet, sophomore forward Nayiri Aslanian pulled down six rebounds and scored 12 points in just 20 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Qimmah Russo had 18 points, while converting 8-of-9 free throw attempts.
Canyons led by four points at halftime, but could not hold on to the lead.
As a team, the Cougars shot 36.5 percent from the field — which was actually one percentage point higher than Bakersfield. The more telling stat, however, was the turnover battle, which Canyons lost 29-16.
The Renegade bench also outscored COC's reserves 22-16.
Canyons will head home for its season finale on Saturday, Feb. 21, as the Cougars tip-off against Citrus College at 5 p.m.
