Canyons Advances to Tourney Championship with 88-66 Win Over Feather River

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's basketball team rolled to its second straight victory at the 'Solano Showdown' Tournament on Saturday, this time beating Feather River College 88-66.
COC sophomore forward Monica Friedl led the Cougars in scoring after going 12-of-21 from the field to finish with 27 points. She also collected six rebounds and three assists.
The Lady Cougars were effective on offense throughout the contest, shooting an astounding 49.4 percent from the field. The Golden Eagles simply couldn't keep pace, shooting 32.1 percent in the game.
Canyons had two players record double-double performances, including Sara Ward and Hannah Green. Ward tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds while Green scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
COC sophomore guard Tamara Smith was effective in her minutes off the bench, scoring 12 points and collecting three rebounds.
Canyons posted an overwhelming rebounding edge over Feather River College, finishing with a 47-27 differential.
The win improves COC's record to 4-3 on the season, with the Cougars headed to the 'Solano Showdown' championship game.
The Cougars will next face Chabot College at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, with a chance to bring home the tourney title.
