Lady Cougars Post 99-52 Win Over Glendale College
COC sophomores Hannah Green and Monica Friedl both posted double-doubles in leading Canyons to victory.
The College of the Canyons women's basketball team trounced Glendale Community College in its Western State Conference (WSC), South home opener in a 99-52 victory on Wednesday night.
The win marks the eighth consecutive victory — and 11th in the last 12 games — for the Lady Cougars.
COC's dual threat combination of Hannah Green and Monica Friedl once again dominated both ends of the court. Both players posted double-doubles in points and rebounds.
Sophomore Monica Friedl led the team in scoring and rebounding scoring 24 points and grabbing 18 boards in 34 minutes of action. She also had four blocks.
Green scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and collected 13 rebounds, and nearly recorded a triple-double in swatting away eight blocks.
Both players contributed to COC's domination on the interior while outscoring Glendale in the paint 52-8 and outrebounding them 50-27.
Head coach Greg Herrick's Cougars lead wire-to-wire over an overmatched Vaqueros side that only shot 27.4 percent from the field.
COC jumped out to a 22-5 lead after the first quarter in which Glendale scored only two field goals.
Sophomore guard Tamara Smith scored 13 points and tallied three rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench to lead the reserves.
The win brings COC's record to 13-4 overall and 3-0 against WSC competition.
The Cougars next game takes them on the road to Glendora, California to take on fellow undefeated in-conference rival Citrus College at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16.
