COC Forward Hannah Green Commits to Illinois State University
Green is the first COC player since Kelli Lewis in 2011 (University of the Pacific) to commit to a Division I program.
College of the Canyons women's basketball player Hannah Green has committed to continue her playing career at Illinois State University, after a season in which the sophomore forward was named Western State Conference (WSC) Player of the Year Honors and earned All-State honors.
The 6-0 forward helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 23-6 overall record, a Western State Conference-South Division Championship and a berth in the California State Regional Playoffs.
Green was selected to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Region All-State Second Team after averaging 14 points per game while pulling down 13.8 rebounds each night out, to rank third in the state. She also shot an impressive 49.4 percent from the field.
But it was on the defensive end that Green was especially dominate.
The West Ranch High School graduate averaged an awe-inspiring 6.5 blocks per game to lead the state, beating the second place mark by 2.5 per game.
Along the way Green recorded double-digit rebounding totals in 23 of COC's 28 games — including 13 games with at least 15 boards.
The West Ranch High School graduate also set school records for blocked shots in a single game (15) and for a single season (194).
"Hannah's work ethic, her skill level and her highly competitive nature were what impressed the coaches at Illinois State," said College of the Canyons head coach Greg Herrick. "She will play a very active role in the improvement of the Redbirds program, just like she did for us at COC."
Illinois State is a NCAA Division I program located in Normal, Illinois. The Redbirds are a member of the highly competitive Missouri Valley Conference. ISU finished 8-22 last season under head coach Barb Smith.
Green is the first COC player since Kelli Lewis in 2011 (University of the Pacific) to commit to a Division I program.
