Canyons Finishes Third at Morro Bay Invitational
Freshman Elisabeth Mortensen finishes in 11th place among the field of 90
Canyons finished behind first place College of the Desert (642) and second place Sierra College (655). Rounding out the top five were fourth place Modesto Junior College (665) and fifth place finisher Irvine Valley College.
On Sunday, the Cougars, led by freshman Julia Youn's score of 81, turned in a team score of 329 to finish one stroke behind Sierra College after 18 holes. Freshman Elisabeth Mortensen and sophomore Andrew Webster each turned in day one scores of 82.
Returning to action on Monday, Mortensen recorded a round two score of 78 to lead Canyons with a two-day total of 160. Mortensen would finish the tourney as COC's top golfer in 11th place.
Freshman Tiffany Whittaker turned in a day two score of 80 to finish with a 36-hole total of 166, good for second among COC golfers and 20th place among the field of 90. Julia Youn would finish the tournament with a combined score of 168 to take the Cougars' third place spot.
The Cougars remain in first place of the Western State Conference (WSC) through the first three WSC tournaments. In addition, all six COC golfers are currently ranked in the WSC's top 10.
College of the Canyons will next play in WSC Tournament No. 4 hosted by Citrus College at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
