Cougars Win Again — Whittaker Ties for Tourney’s Individual Title

Canyons has now won each of the season's first five WSC tournaments and sits alone atop the standings.
The College of the Canyons women's golf team extended its stranglehold on the Western State Conference (WSC) standings this week, as the Cougars one again finished in first place at WSC Tournament No. 6 held Oct. 13, at Kern River Golf Course in Bakersfield.
Canyons has now won each of the season's first five WSC tournaments and sits alone atop the standings. Additionally, COC's golfers are each individually ranked in the top 11 of the conference.
On Monday, the Cougars were led by freshman Tiffany Whittaker's score of 78, which was also good enough to tie for the tournament's individual top spot with Citrus College golfer Lexandra So.
Freshman Elisabeth Mortensen and Julia Youn were next on the card, with each golfer turning in a score of 81 to finish tied for the tourney's fifth place spot. Rounding out the COC scorecard was sophomore Kathy Quock's mark of 86.
All said, the Cougars turned in a team score of 326 to win the tourney.
Citrus College would finish in second place with a mark of 364, while Santa Barbara City College placed third with 378 combined strokes.
Canyons will next participate in WSC Tournament No. 6 on Monday, Oct. 20, at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
