SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Heading into its contest with conference rival Santa Monica, COC had a slim lead atop the Western State Conference South standings to protect.
Despite giving up just one goal, the Cougars proved unable to help themselves in the standings, falling 1-0 in a defensive showdown.
The two teams played to a standstill for 63 minutes, until Santa Monica's Xiovana Ortiz beat COC goalkeeper Priscilla Duron to give her team the 1-0 lead.
That scoreline would not change, moving Santa Monica a game back of first-place COC.
COC has allowed just five goals throughout the season, and generally finds itself on the winning end of close matches such as Tuesday's. However, it was Santa Monica that had this edge this time out.
The Cougars will return home to host L.A. Valley College on Friday, Oct. 31.
